steps in time

Welcome to Steps in Time.

The new Leeds City Museum opened its doors on the 13th September to an eager public. With four floors of displays and interactive exhibits to suit all visitors, the museum is a wonder to behold! At it’s heart is the Central Arena, where you’ll find the opening exhibition, ‘Steps In Time’ that shows Leeds’ vibrant cultural landscape as it is today through the eyes of those who dance in Leeds.

With a collection of seven films beautifully crafted by artist and contemporary film maker Ed Torsney of Mojo Media the project captures the spirit of dance and in doing so captures the spirit of Leeds itself - progressive, energetic, original!

The project is a “Renaissance Partnership” initiative with dynamic producers and project managers from Yorkshire Film Archive and Leeds Museums and Galleries working together to present this unique exhibition.

The films will ultimately be preserved at the Yorkshire Film Archive as part of their contemporary collections, for future generations to enjoy and learn from.

You can view previews of the films on this site by following the ‘video menu’ link, but we urge you to go view them in the magnificent surroundings of Leeds City Museum, Millennium Square Leeds!

Enjoy!
